Here in Atlanta, summer comes with a brutal and pretty relentless heat wave. When I wear makeup (aka when I’m not spending the entire day inside lounging around) I like for it to look as natural as possible and feel fresh – not cakey! Most importantly I don’t want it to melt off my face! Here are the products I’m using this summer and a few tips to make your makeup sweat and heat proof!
Neutrogena’s Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen is perfect for vacations or honestly just spending anytime outside. If you breakout easily like me, you’ll love this sunscreen because it’s oil free and won’t clog your pores! The one I use has an SPF of 55, so it definitely gets the job done without feeling heavy or greasy.
About a week ago I purchased Maybeline’s Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer and I’m loving it! Primers are super important to use in the summer because they give your makeup something to adhere to and make everything last longer in the heat. This primer completely blurs my pores and leaves my skin feeling extremely soft. For a “no makeup” look you could totally swipe on a little mascara and wear this by itself to even out your complexion. The best thing about this primer is it’s only $6!
I’m not a fan of wearing foundation in the summer mainly because it feels really heavy in the heat. Instead I opt for a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. My favorite is Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer – it’s is a holy grail product I’ve been using for years. It has an SPF of 25 so I can get away without wearing sunscreen sometimes, and I pretty much love everything about it!
Summer is all about a natural glow! This summer is the first time I’ve gotten into using highlighters, and I’m realizing I’ve been missing out. Colourpop’s highlighters are extremely pigmented and the shades are absolutely gorgeous . They blend and melt perfectly into your skin, making it last all day in the heat without fading. Wisp (the shade in the photo above) is a beautiful champagne gold that gives a perfect glow. The quality of Colorpop’s products are amazing and these highlighters are only $8 guys!!!
None of the products above will last in the heat without a good setting spray! Something different I’ve been trying is spritzing a layer of setting spray right after applying primer. It completely lock in the base layer before applying anything else. This has made such a difference in the lasting time of my makeup this summer! Once the spray is absorbed and completely dry, I continue applying the rest of my makeup, and top everything off with a few more spritz to set everything.
My favorite setting spray is L’oreal’s Infallible Makeup Extender. It’s a perfect dupe for Urban Decay’s All Nighter Spray . They actually have the same formula, but L’oreal’s spray is slightly less expensive. It keeps everything in place without adding extra weight or oil to your face!
